About the artwork
A monumental and elegant bookcase with a central easel by the major French avant-garde furniture designer André Sornay (1902-2000). A contemporary to Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand and Jean Prouvé, Sornay’s distinctive oeuvre is highly sought-after for contributing significantly to the era’s minimalist and modernist aesthetic.
This exceptional solid mahogany bookcase is a unique and early example of his work. It was created especially by Sornay for a home in Lyon, where it has remained until now. A copy of his hand-drawn design shows the piece in its original setting.
